Every Operating System You Can Flash with YellowBoot

One of YellowBoot's strongest features is its broad compatibility with operating system images. Whether you need to install the latest Windows build or boot into a niche Linux rescue disk, YellowBoot has you covered.

Windows

YellowBoot fully supports all modern Windows releases:

  • Windows 11 — All editions including Home, Pro, Enterprise, and Education. Both 64-bit and ARM64 ISOs are supported.
  • Windows 10 — All editions and builds. YellowBoot handles the large NTFS file splitting required for ISOs over 4 GB on FAT32 drives.
  • Windows 8.1 — Fully supported for legacy hardware.
  • Windows 7 — Supported with both MBR and GPT configurations. Note that USB 3.0 drivers may need to be injected separately for some hardware.

Popular Linux Distributions

YellowBoot works with every major Linux distribution:

  • Ubuntu (including Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu) — All LTS and interim releases.
  • Fedora — Workstation, Server, and Spin editions.
  • Debian — Stable, Testing, and Unstable branches.
  • Arch Linux — The official installation ISO boots correctly in both UEFI and Legacy modes.
  • Linux Mint — Cinnamon, MATE, and Xfce editions.
  • CentOS / Rocky Linux / AlmaLinux — Enterprise server distributions.
  • openSUSE — Leap and Tumbleweed editions.
  • Manjaro — All desktop editions.
  • Pop!_OS — System76's Ubuntu-based distribution.
  • Kali Linux — Security-focused distribution for penetration testing.
  • Tails — Privacy-focused OS that routes traffic through Tor.

macOS

YellowBoot can create bootable USB drives from macOS recovery images. Note that Apple hardware has specific boot requirements, and Hackintosh configurations may need additional steps beyond what YellowBoot provides.

Utility and Rescue Disks

Beyond full operating systems, YellowBoot can flash a variety of utility disks:

  • GParted Live — Partition editing and disk management.
  • Clonezilla — Disk imaging and cloning.
  • SystemRescue — Comprehensive system rescue toolkit.
  • Hiren's Boot CD PE — Hardware diagnostics and data recovery.
  • Memtest86+ — Memory testing.

Supported Image Formats

YellowBoot accepts the following file formats:

  • .iso — Standard disc image format (most common)
  • .img — Raw disk image
  • .zip — Compressed images (auto-extracted during flash)

Tips for Best Results

  • Always download ISOs from official sources. Third-party download sites sometimes host modified or outdated images.
  • Verify the checksum. Use YellowBoot's built-in checksum tool to confirm your download is authentic.
  • Use a USB 3.0 drive with at least 8 GB. While 4 GB works for smaller Linux ISOs, Windows images typically need more space.
  • Match the partition scheme to your hardware. Use GPT for UEFI systems (most modern PCs) and MBR for Legacy BIOS machines.

Request a New OS

If you encounter an operating system image that does not work with YellowBoot, please open an issue on our GitHub repository. We are constantly expanding compatibility and would love to hear about edge cases we have not yet covered.
